I work on too many of them to believe that anymore. There are many MBZ products that I'll happily defend, but not the S-class.

Well I have a 20 year S420 that's been in my possession for the last 5 years and it's seldom skipped a beat. Obviously my S-Class doesn't have as many electronic things as the current models do but still, nowhere near being junk.

I have. I respectfully disagree with almost everything he says. His caveat is always that if you work on it yourself, it's cheaper. This is true, but it's also true that the vast majority of people who buy these things used either can't or are not willing or able to do things themselves, in which case they are ruinously expensive. They're even more expensive if you attempt something yourself and botch it. Also, the newer the car, the less DIY friendly it is. I don't like that any more than anyone else, but its true.

I agree with that, and I really like that 4-cam V8. The W140 can be a solid car, and its one of the last MBZ cars that can be considered DIY friendly, though less so than prior generations. The less optional equipment the better.

Actually yeah, a lot of the oldS's thatI see have pretty much all working features. Usually they come in because of squeaky ball joints, or leaky valve covers, or some other stupid and easy crap. The bad ones are always owned by the people who are too cheap to take care of normal maintenance. This can be said even of early 220's. The problem isn't a lack of reliability, it's cost to repair. People ignore repairs because they are expensive and then end up with a shit car. One Mercedes may have ten times the problems of one Toyota, but that one Mercedes has twenty times the technology.
